Cars in Germany's City Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were contacted by a individual who noticed a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Police say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say initial examinations show the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.

City officials stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.

A high-ranking representative commented the attack left him stunned and required to be solved quickly.

"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
